CBS soap opera "The Young and the Restless" took home 17 2008 daytime emmy nominations in total, making it the most-nominated show, while fellow ABC soap "Guiding Light” tied with ABC's "One Life to Live" and longtime PBS children's show "Sesame Street" for a total of 13 nominations each. CBS' "As the World Turns" was next with 12.
CBS soaps also swept the 2008 daytime emmy nominations for lead actress in a drama, with two nominations each for "The Young and the Restless" (Michelle Stafford and Jeanne Cooper) and "Guiding Light" (Crystal Chappell and Nicole Forester) and one for "As the World Turns" (Maura West).
"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" took the most nominations for a talk show (8), just ahead of "The View" (7). The nominations for top talk show went to "Ellen," "Rachael Ray" and "The View." DeGeneres is up for talk show host honors, competing against Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa of "Live with Regis and Kelly," and the cast from "The View": Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd.
The lifetime achievement award will be presented to Philbin. The June 20 ceremony will be telecast live from Hollywood’s Kodak Theater on ABC.
