This year, Singapore Chinese Orchestra Young Children Concert aims to expose the children to the concepts of rhythms, beat patterns while experiencing the beauty of Chinese orchestral music. The conductor will demonstrate how to differentiate the various kinds of beats and pulses and the young audiences are encouraged to try their hand in conducting by following along the conductor. Colourful slides will be projected during the demonstration to capture the attention of the children and visually aid the learning. A quiz section is also incorporated to further enhance the interactive element with the children. A variety of music styles will be also introduced to the young audience.
In this concert, the little ones will jump with the beats of enjoyable pieces such as Radetzky March by Johann Strauss, Minute in G by JS Bach, Melodic Potpourri and Songs for Little Angels. Apart from these, some ever-popular tunes well-known to both young children and adult such as Chan Mali Chan, The Pink Panther and Good Mother will be presented in the concert as well in a lively manner.
Taking place on 9 May, 11am and 11 May, 5pm, the former caters specially for school group bookings while the latter welcomes parents and family members join in and have fun. To encourage families to attend this fabulous weekend event, 20 Family Packages (4 tickets) to watch the concert on 11 May will be given to parents who mail back the publicity postcard with their child's photo pasted on it by 1 May 08. The first 5 entries will bring home an extra goody bag! Since its debut in 2003, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra Young Children's Concert has been receiving overwhelming responses and rave reviews. Schools and parents find the concert a fun way to cultivate the appreciation of music amongst the children.
