This is why yesterday Matt told the viewers that his last destination on Where In The World Is Matt Lauer will be a place where the national symbol is for eyes only.
Praslin, Seychelles island is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, a quick google map shows. Actually Google Map's Satellite view has a very detailed look of the island, where I actually see a nice size golf course there. Therefore, it seems that tourism is well developed in the Seychelles and they hope for more.
TODAY travel editor Peter Greenberg explores the white-sand beaches, coral reefs and magical green waters of the Seychelles archipelago.
One of the biggest surprises about a visit to Seychelles will hit you after you return home: When you show off your trip photos to your friends and family, they will inevitably ask if you used a color filter on your camera lens, convinced that no ocean could have that color.
But the truth is, no ocean looks quite like the Indian Ocean, and the sight of that magical green water is a wonderful and indelible memory.
So is getting to the Republic of Seychelles. It’s in the Indian Ocean, about 1,000 miles east of Kenya. The Seychelles is comprised of 115 islands, many of which have deserted beaches with untouched sand — sand that is fine and white like talcum powder.
When to visit to Seychelles
The best time to go is April and October, when the trade winds are milder and the climate is warmest. The rainy season is from mid-November until mid-February. And because of the islands’ location, you’re guaranteed about 12 hours of daylight year round.Getting to Seychelles
No visa required. That’s the good news. The bad news: You’re welcome to visit, but not to stay: You must present a passport that is valid for the entire length of your stay, show immigration officials a return/onward ticket to leave, proof of accommodation including contact details, sufficient funds (at least $150/day) for the duration of your stay. All of this will grant you a visitor’s permit that is given free of charge and is valid for one month.Seychelles International Airport is located on Mahé island. Emirates has one-stop flights from JFK to Mahé, and Air Seychelles has several flights a week departing from London, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Rome, and also flights once or twice weekly from Johannesburg, Mauritius, Bangkok and Singapore.
Praslin, where Matt started to report from this morning is the second largest island of Seychelles and also home to sheltered valleys, ancient palm forests, glorious beaches of soft white sand and the Valee de Mai - a designated World Heritage Site.
According to Go2africa "The pace of life on this dreamy island is very leisurely and although public transport does exist, car, bicycle and foot are probably the best methods for island exploration. The Air Seychelles flight from Mahe takes 15 minutes whereas aspirant seafarers have an option of a fast catamaran ferry or a more relaxed paced schooner to get to Baie Ste Anne on Praslin."
I think Matt Lauer and The Today Show did a great job on this year's Where In The World Is Matt Lauer travel project. Yesterday I read that the rating of the Today Show was even lifted because of the Where In The World Is Matt Lauer. Perhaps Matt can do this twice a year and not only once a year.
To conclude I really hope that Seychelles may get more tourists to help its economy and improve people's life in the middle of the Indian Ocean. You know what I am going to Digg this story, perhaps you can help to. May be we can raise some awareness about Seychelles and its people.
