Sgt. Merlin German The Miracles Passes On

Manhattan-born US Marine Sgt. Merlin German, 22, died on April 11, but somehow it just made the newspaper today. Dubbed the Miracle Man because he survived burns to 97% of his body, German was injured in a roadside blast in Iraq in February, 2005. The Miracle Man had endured over 100 operations, but sadly a procedure to replace skin under his lip finally claimed his life.

The Miracle Man had endured over 100 operations, but sadly a procedure to replace skin under his lip finally claimed his life. Merlin German loved kids, and had hoped to establish a foundation to help child burn victims and their families.

When you read stories like this, it makes it even harder to deal with the typical bs political posturing, like a trip to the gas station where you can't even figure out how to push a button to fix yourself a latte. It is exactly a story like Sgt. German's that reminds us why this a crucial time in our history where we can not afford to get bogged down in politics as usual. We need bold leadership to get all Americans together and on the right path now more than ever.

Sgt. German was a selfless hero who fought for us, and spent three grueling years of recovery motivated to turn his situation into a way to help others. The next time you're tempted to slide into the cesspool of discussions about preachers and lapel pins, please reflect upon Sgt. German's story and think about how your time could be better spent helping our country, or solving other people's problems.

You can start by taking a break from political donations today, and honoring the Miracle Man, USMC Sgt. Merlin German, by making a donation to Merlin's Miracles at www.merlinsmiracles.com.
