York Theatre Hosts Powerhouse Of Movement And Music

Posted May 6th, 2008 by ruzik_tuzik

This May, York Theatre Royal will be playing host to the highly acclaimed Actors of Dionysus with their latest gripping new acrobatic aerial theatre show Baachic (6th May at 7.30pm), as well as the exciting folk powerhouse group The Demon Barber Roadshow (7th May at 8pm).

Bacchic is an innovative one-woman show, performed by Actors of Dionysus Artistic Director, Tamsin Shasha. Inspired by The Bacchae, Euripides ' masterpiece of rejection and revenge, it examines the power of hero worship and celebrity culture and the influence this can have on ordinary 'mortals'. With a specially commissioned score and carefully choreographed aerial theatre, the piece uses text, movement and music to create a visually stunning and provocative piece of theatre.

Youthful, enthralling, charismatic, and with bags of attitude, The Demon Barbers combine solid traditional acoustic instruments and songs with the added oomph of a superbly tight rhythm section, making a unique and captivating sound. The show also features the world premiere of a pilot project created by Damien Barber. Be the first to see the stunning fusion between traditional clog dance, break dance, beat box and percussion. -- www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
