Dallas Orchestra Present A Summer That Sizzles Like No Other

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents a summer concert series with something for all musical tastes. Diverse classical programming, a children's pop music sensation and seasoned artists are just a few things concertgoers can expect. The Dallas Symphony's own musicians take center stage, performing beloved classical repertoire.

Children young and old have the chance to dance to the beat with the popular Kidz Bop. As the summer winds down, the music heats up as The Gipsy Kings and, later, Huey Lewis & The News take the stage.

CASUAL CLASSICS SERIES

The Casual Classics Series begins Friday, June 6, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. with a concert every Saturday thereafter through June 28. Subscriptions go on sale April 1.

A program dedicated entirely to Mozart kicks off the Casual Classics Series, which includes the composer's Overture to The Magic Flute and his Symphony No. 41, Jupiter. European dance is next on the program, with the second concert in the series featuring works by Dvorak, Schubert and Mendelssohn and ending with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The third concert of the series features the future of American orchestras as the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and Luke Hsu, winner of the Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition, share stage time with the Dallas Symphony. And finally, DSO Concertmaster Emanuel Borok closes the Casual Classics Series, performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.

DALLAS SYMPHONY PRESENTS SUMMER SERIES

Beginning with the recently announced concert event Blue Planet Live! and ending with a seasoned artist, the Dallas Symphony Presents summer series has something for everyone. An exploration of the unknown depths of the ocean begins the Dallas Symphony Presents series, with Blue Planet Live! in its Texas - and, in fact, Southwestern U.S. - debut. Based on the hit BBC/Discovery Channel series, magnificent footage of coral reefs, frozen seas, exotic marine life and more is projected on the big screen with a live symphonic soundtrack.

The children's pop sensation Kidz Bop Live invades the Meyerson July 13, featuring some of today's most popular music performed by children for children. Top 40 hits and all-time favorites are performed, all with the Kidz Bop flair children have grown to love. This kid-friendly concert is just a taste of the Kidz Bop phenomenon, which includes over 10 million records sold of hits, classics and holiday favorites in just six years.

Fan favorites The Gipsy Kings return to the Meyerson for two incredible nights in late August and early September, bringing their signature percussion-heavy tunes to Dallas for two incredible evenings.
