Utah Opera Presents Richard Strauss's Ariadne Auf Naxos

Utah Opera will present its premiere of Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in the Capitol Theatre on January 13, 15, 17, and 19 at 7:30 pm and January 21 at 2:00 pm. At an extravagant estate, a composer of the evening's opera is falling for the star of the evening's comedy.

But before their love can flower, the head butler adds a surprising twist by announcing that the opera and comedy must be performed simultaneously. This comedic opera is sung in German with English supertitles.

The Utah Symphony will accompany Utah Opera in each performance, conducted by Klauspeter Seibel. Stage Director David Gately (Hansel and Gretel, Rigoletto) returns to Utah Opera to capture all of the innovative satire and profound wit.

Tickets for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday performances are $12-$62. Tickets for Monday and Wednesday performances are $10-$55. Tickets can be purchased by calling (801) 355-ARTS (355-2787), 1-888-451-2787, in person at the Abravanel Hall ticket office, the Capitol Theatre box office or by visiting www.utahsymphonyopera.org. Subscribers and those desiring group or student discounts should call (801) 533-NOTE (533-6683).

There will be one 20 minute intermission. Approximate final curtain is 10:20 p.m. for evening performances and 4:50 p.m. for the matinee. -- www.utahopera.org
