Broadcom's Complete High Definition DVD Solution Lowers Overall System Cost and Helps to Drive Faster Consumer Adoption of the Blu-ray Standard

Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in consumer electronics, has selected its complete Blu-ray™ chipset solution for its next generation BD-P1200 high definition DVD player. Based on unparalleled integration of advanced and required features, the complete Broadcom® high definition DVD solution enables Samsung to develop a high-quality, cost-effective platform that will help to drive faster consumer adoption of the high definition DVD Blu-ray standard.
Announced today at 2007 International CES, Samsung Electronics unveiled its second generation high definition Blu-ray DVD player for the home entertainment industry. With this announcement, Broadcom expects that the BD- P1200 player will help position Samsung to stay a step ahead of the cutting- edge optical media industry, after Samsung introduced its first Blu-ray Disc (BD) player (BD-P1000) to the U.S. market in June 2006.

Broadcom's complete high definition DVD solution provides Samsung with a field proven, reliable, high performance chipset platform that includes a MIPS® processor, a multi-stream high definition video decoder, dedicated graphics engines, DSP-based audio processors, a security processor, double data rate (DDR) interfaces, integrated video and audio outputs and a complete array of system and network connectivity interfaces. The chipset is supported by a complete reference design and a comprehensive software stack that includes support for all Blu-ray profiles.
