American Stock Exchange Reports Short Interest Decrease

The American Stock Exchange member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 1,288,642,540 shares as of the April 30, 2008 settlement date, a decrease of 4,723,835 from the 1,293,366,375 (adjusted) shares reported on April 15, 2008. The figure represents trades through April 25, 2008.

In the year ago period, short interest totaled 865,833,907 (adjusted).

The April end-of-month short interest position reflects short interest reported by all broker-dealers (not only American Stock Exchange member firms) in Amex-listed stocks. A short position of 5,000 or more shares existed in 839 issues. Some short position was shown in 1,414 issues.

The attached short interest report was compiled by the American Stock Exchange on the basis of information obtained from its member and non-member organizations covering all securities dealt in on the Exchange on both round and odd-lots.
