Armenia Holds 2nd Annual IT Career Fair

On May 16, 2008, the USAID-funded Competitive Armenian Private Sector Project (CAPS) will hold the Second Annual Information Technology (IT) Career Fair. Top universities in Armenia offering IT programs - Yerevan State University, State Engineering University of Armenia, American University of Armenia and Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, as well as the Union of IT Enterprises (UITE) – are involved in organizing the event.

Third and fourth-year students, as well as graduate students and recent graduates will attend the fair to present their credentials to prospective employers. The Fair will be held in the American University of Armenia at 40 Baghramian Street, Yerevan.

Renowned companies of the Armenian IT sector, including ArmenTel, K-Telekom, Synopsys, Virage Logic, National Instruments, Epygi Technologies, Boomerang Software, Synergy and others, will present their current and upcoming vacancies and recruit graduates.

By facilitating the hiring needs of local IT companies and the employment needs of public and private university students and local jobseekers, the Career Fair will strengthen and help to systematize the IT jobseeker network by bringing together employers and job seekers. The event will also expose IT graduates to current hiring and future job market trends, while opening up job opportunities with the most recognized companies in the IT industry.

Prior to the event, the CAPS Project will conduct pre-event resume-writing workshops for University students and graduates. Additionally, it will deliver an information session for participating companies, as well as training for companies in good recruitment techniques.

“There are job seekers and there are employee seekers and they both rely mostly on their friends and relatives to find job or employees. Career fairs are a more professional way of bringing these two groups together. Moreover, such events help job seekers learn about the market demand for different types of specialists as well as how to prepare resumes professionally” say the participants of First Armenian Information Technology Career Fair 2007, which had been organized by CAPS and universities offering IT degrees.

According to statistics, the IT Career Fair in Armenia last year helped numerous students and graduates from Armenian universities find jobs in their area of specialization.
