Lori Drew, was or is a neighbor of the Meier's, and was well aware that Megan suffered from depression, and was taking medication for it.
A 19 year-old Ashley Grills, who has admitted to setting up the MySpace page used to drive a child to suicide, and says that Lori Drew also sent hateful messages, and assisted with the creation of the MySpace page. She has also reportedly confessed to sending the final email that apparently triggered Megan's death. Grills was an employee of Lori Drew.
Megan Meier is the child who took her own life after being callously told by two grown women that the world would be better off without her.
If there has been a more outrageous story in the news this year besides this one involving Lori Drew, I have missed it. Apparently this plot was developed after a break between Megan Meier and Drew's daughter who is reported to be 18 years old, who had been friends. And for some reason, Mommy Dearest, decided she needed to punish this child.
Bloggers have been in a fury over this, and I'm not surprised. Drew and Grills both should go to prison for a good, long time, and be shunned by society for the rest of their natural lives.
Once upon a time I had a 13 year-old daughter, and any parent who has survived their offspring's teenage years knows that adolescents tend to fuss at each other, although Drew's daughter is a bit long in the tooth to be squabbling with a 13 year-old. Even boys do it, although with the male of the species it more often comes to a test of strength, rolling around on the ground trying to prove which one has the more powerful muscles. Girls fuss, they call each other insulting names, they weep, they argue... mainly over boys and clothes. Any parent who takes this seriously needs to stop and consider when they, themselves were at that stage. Personally, I know that my own teenage years were responsible for more than a few of my mother's gray hairs. But you don't set out to take revenge on a child!
What shameful, ignorant, self-serving, vindictive, asinine, criminal behavior by two women Lori Drew and Ashley Grills and who were both old enough to know better, instead of driving a child to myspace suicide. A child is dead, and her family will never again be whole.
