The Memorial erected in the French city of Valence in memory of the 1 500 000 victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire, was desecrated in the night from 14 to May 15, 2008. An illegible inscription painted in black covers the monument base, independent French correspondent Jean Eckian informed Radiolur.
Coordination of the French Armenian Organizations from Drome-Ardeche area's (COADA) took a complaint to the Police station of Valence.
In November 2005, Valence became the stage for clashes between the Turkish and Armenian communities.
Since January 2008, seven Armenian memorials have been vandalized in Saint-Chamond, Creteil, Lyon, Valence (France); Cardiff (UK.), Budapest (Hungria) and Lvov (Ukraine).
