Blackberry Tour 9630 About to Be Released: Competition For iPhone

The Iphone has led the pack for so long that some of us thought it would always be the case, but Blackberry's Tour 9630 may be catching up.

I remember the first time I saw the iPhone. My friend James had one, and I was intrigued. The fact that it had a level blew my mind. The games and effortless internet connection weren't too shabby either. I've since heard time and time again how much once you have an Iphone, it becomes more important than your other electronics (and possibly even family members). The new iPhone drops June 19, but this time, there's a new threat to its monopoly on phone-lovers - the new Blackberry Tour.

The Blackberry (which, judging by my experience, is a love/hate brand. Some businesspeople I know swear by theirs, and others can't call it by anything but its "cr*pberry" pseudonym) is debuting the Tour in the next few weeks, anticipating that Verizon stores will be getting them in mid-July.

The Blackberry Tour will be $199 with a two-year agreement and rebates, and will have Blackberry's best music and video capabilities yet. The tour will have Blackberry's highest resolution screen available and will feature MediaSync, which will help with music transfers between the phone and the Apple iTunes store. One of the features of the Tour which seems to me to make the most ripples will be its full keyboard. If I've heard any complaints about the iPhone, they've centered around typing on it.

Will the Blackberry Tour 9630 really be a contender? We'll just have to wait and see (and go play with the demo at the store, of course).
