This is the first that a very high ranking church authority says that the Ark of the Covenant is Revealed. The head of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia, Abuna Pauolos, has announced that the Ark of the Covenant will be revealed to the public.
This week, while meeting with Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican City, Pauolos not only confirmed that the Ark of the Convenant is located in Ethiopia, but that it will be unveiled on Friday. According The Weekly World News, he stated that "soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries.” If the Ark of the Covenant is revealed, this will be the first time that it has ever been viewed by the public. It has never before been photographed, and its location had not even been officially confirmed before now.
The legend of the Ark of the Covenant is that it was constructed to hold the stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments were written by Moses after his meeting with God. According to Wikipedia, the Ark was made of shittah-tree wood, known to the Egyptians as the Tree of Life, and covered with gold. Over the ark were two cherubs, and it was carried by rods attached by two golden rings on the sides of the Ark. The Ark of the Covenant holds an important place in the Bible's Old Testament, was also mentioned in the Quran, and it is sure to draw crowds.
The Ark of the Covenant will now be revealed in Ethiopia, where it is housed in the Chapel of the Tablet, near the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. It is used in occasional religious rights, and has only been previously seen by "highly qualified persons", according to Paulos.
