Bernard Madoff Maxed Out Sentence at 150 Years

According to The Age, Bernard Madoff has been sentenced to 150 years in prison. Bernard Madoff is famous for being a Wall Street swindler.

The sentence given to Bernard Madoff yesterday was the maximum one possible. Over several years, Madoff cheated people from all walks of life out of their money.

Judge Denny Chin sentenced Bernard Madoff to 150 years in prison this week.

Bernard Madoff had apologized in the courtroom, saying that he was leaving behind a "legacy of shame" and that he was living in "a tormented state." Ira Sorkin, Bernard Madoff's attorney, had asked the judge to give Madoff no more than a 20 year sentence, citing his remorse as justification for the comparatively short amount of time.

Clearly the judge did not agree that remorse was enough of a punishment, as is evident with the sentence that was handed down. Needless to say, Bernard Madoff won't be seeing the outside of his cell for a very long while. He has been credited with pulling off one of the "biggest financial scams of all time," and I am sure that the victims of this scheme that lost homes, life savings, and stock portfolios while contributing to the staggering sum of $13 billion that was made from their suffering would agree that 150 years for Bernard Madoff is just long enough.
