So the rocky airplane landing was not the cause of Billy Mays' death after all. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner, Vernard Adams, ruled that Billy Mays died of hypertensive heart disease.

Previous articles stated that Billy Mays' death came from brain damage and possible brain swelling that resulted from two blown tires upon a flight landing. The jolting impact of the landing plane was thought to have caused the brain damage. However, this theory has been debunked. Mays died as a result of hypertensive heart disease.

Adams stated that there was no sign of head trauma in Mays' autopsy results. Rather, Mays had an enlarged heart. Other signs that the death was also caused by a pulmonary embolism, which was in turn brought on by his hypertensive heart disease.

As a result of his landing, it is possible that Billy Mays could have felt the symptoms of a pulmonary embolism but attributed them to the rough landing. Symptoms include shortness of breath, nausea, and difficulty sleeping. The are all things that could have understandably happened as a result of the stress caused by a rough flight landing.

That Billy Mays' death was caused by hypertensive heart disease and a pulmonary embolism may be reassuring to the public. After so many unexpected deaths in the media lately, it seems that a "natural death" is almost a relief to the public. However, Billy Mays' death, whether of an accident of a physical condition such as hypertensive heart disease, is still a cause to mourn for his family and loved ones.
