School Teams Raise 178000 In Relay For Life Event

My Daddy was diagnosed with a bad type of colon cancer last fall. He has endured many radiation treatments, multiple rounds of chemo and several surgeries since then. The doctors were able to remove the tumor and biopsies showed there is no more cancer in his lymph nodes! We seen many miracles and answers to prayers through it all! Right now he is recovering. It's a day by day, step by step process with some more surgery and treatments in the future but he's doing well. Praise God!

This past week, we were busy at school, getting ready to participate in our local Relay for Life event this past weekend as a when to help fight back against cancer. It was a great experience and a wonderful way to help out a great cause.

Even though we got a late start putting together our team, we were able to raise over $3600, with our school owner matching all donations, dollar for dollar! The total raised by all 78 teams at our event was over $178,000!

If you don't know anything about Relay for Life, it is the main event for the American Cancer Society for help raise funds and awareness about cancer.

The events are held overnight to represent the fact that cancer never sleeps. During the Relay event, teams gather at schools or parks and take turns walking or running laps, with each team trying to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. They also officially begin each event with an inspirational Survivors Lap, where cancer survivors take the first lap around the track. When night falls, there is a Ceremony of Hope where luminaries are lit in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one who has had cancer. It's one of the most moving and touching parts of Relay.

I am so glad to have joined in with this important and fun event! And it's a great knowing that together with every one's help, we have the power to fight back against a disease that affects millions of lives each year.
