A nine-year-old Tasmanian boy is hoping for a big response to 'Black-and-White, Save the Tasmanian Devil Day' project, which aims to raise funds to save endangered Tasmanian Devil.

All money raised will help research into the deadly facial tumor disease that's threatening the tasmanian devil.

In parts of Tasmania up to 90% of Tasmanian Devils have been wiped out by a contagious cancer-like facial tumour disease.

It is the initiative of Nic Bonnitcha, otherwise known as 'Nature Nic'.

"I want people to dress in black and white, donate a gold coin, the money goes to tasmanian devil research," he said.

"Australia Zoo is helping to promote black-and-white day nationally, I want to raise $50,000 and next year I want to triple the amount."

Donations for Tasmanian Devil fund raising project can be made to www.NatureNic.com.au

Earlier ABC Australia had reported that "More than half of Tasmania's wild devil population has been wiped out by a deadly facial tumour disease and it is soon to be declared an endangered species."
