Tests after Senator Edward Kennedy's seizure this past Saturday revealed that the Senator has a Malignant form of Brain Tumor.

Putting politics aside and whatever you think about the car accident involving the young woman many years ago, this is very sad. A lot of loss in the Kennedy family and a lot of heartache through the years.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types - such as glioblastomas - or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

According to the doctors of the Massachusetts General Hospital, that provide treatment to Senator Kennedy "Kennedy "remains in good overall condition and is up and walking around the hospital," the statement said. Kennedy was hospitalized Saturday morning after suffering a seizure," reports CNN.

The National Cancer Institute defines Brain Tumor as the growth of abnormal cells in the tissues of the brain. Brain tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).

Estimated new cases and deaths from brain and other nervous system tumors in the United States in 2008:

New cases: 21,810
Deaths: 13,070

Treatment for a brain tumor depends on the type, size and location of the tumor, as well as your overall health and your preferences. Your doctor can tailor treatment to fit your particular situation.
