1,600-year-old Byzantine Christian basilica is discovered under lake in western Turkey. "An ancient basilica from the ancient Roman period has been discovered two meters under İznik Lake, in the western province of Bursa," reports Turkish Hurriyet Daily News.
“This church’s remains are similar to the Hagia Sophia in İznik. This is why we estimated that it was built in the fifth century A.D.,” said Mustafa Şahin, an archaeology professor at Bursa Uludağ University.
