
The NYSE Group, Inc. today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of May 15, 2008.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to 15,995,002,917 from 15,628,750,373 shares on April 30, 2008. This was an increase of 366,252,544 shares.
The short interest on May 15 was equal to 4.2 percent of the total shares outstanding.
The short interest in warrants as of May 15 amounted to 892,061 warrants, compared to 109,198 warrants the previous period.
As of the settlement date, there were 3,671 stocks and 9 warrants available for trading. Of these, 3,168 issues had either a short position of at least 5,000 shares or a change of 2,000 shares since the last monthly report.
