Finally since 1999 to now the obesity rate has stopped climbing and held steady at 17% from kids 2 to 19. Researchers are trying to find the cause of the plateau and some what believe it is the early signs of our awareness and focus.
In the last few years we have seen vending machines taken out of many schools and healthier foods added to the lunch menu. Also, in some places they have added half an hour to the school curriculum devoted solely to physical activity.
I do believe that the obesity rate is a limited number, meaning that kids aren't all going to go obese simply due to the fact that it is shuned upon. I believe that obesity only really changes if the kids themselves want to change.
The school and administrators can say it's because of them, and a small portion of it may be, but the truth is its the responsibility of the child. This is a statistic that isn't worth keeping, because yes we are in an era with bad eating habits, but the demand to be skinny and fit is also higher than ever.So it is a variable number, and one not to be concerned with.
