Kicking off the season, Aside Productions will present the world premiere of MOIRAE, an original comedy by playwright and Aside Productions’ founder and administrator, James Canfield.
MOIRAE is the story of the Three Fates of Greek Mythology fame. When one of the sisters falls in love with a mortal man, the Fates’ world is turned upside down. It is the story of how love can drive people to do the wildest things, even change the fate of the world… literally.
MOIRAE will be performed on June 18th and 19th at 7:00 PM in the South Regional Montgomery Library in the Children’s Room on the ground level. The library is on the corner of Lake Robbins Rd. and Six Pines in The Woodlands, TX. Admission is free.
Following MOIRAE, Aside Productions will produce AN EVENING OF ORIGINAL PLAYS, a new play festival showcasing the work of three local award-winning playwrights. The festival will feature “The Memoir” by Kristine Carr, “World Collapsing” by James Canfield, and “Boss of Boston” by Tyler Lewis.
“The Memoir” by Kristine Carr, a Woodlands High School graduate and a senior at St. Edward’s University, is the story of a young woman grappling with the death of her acclaimed, writer father and the shadows and consequences of his actions that are left behind. “The Memoir” won the Texas Educators Theatre Association’s Playfest competition in 2005 and was produced and performed by The Woodlands High School.
“World Collapsing” by James Canfield, a Woodlands High School graduate and a sophomore at Saint Louis University, follows the story of Kathryn, a woman whose husband has disappeared in the rubble of the World Trade Center. Taking place on September 12th, 2001, Kathryn finds herself thrown violently into the center of this tragedy and through her actions must find the hope that will allow her to continue on. “World Collapsing” was recently selected from over 400 submissions as a finalist to be performed during the prestigious 10 by 10 in the Triangle Festival at the Arts Center in North Carolina.
“Boss of Boston” by Tyler Lewis, an upcoming junior at The Woodlands High School, tells the tale of Danny and a day in his over-the-top life. Faced with a boss with a memory problem and a temper to make up for it, a gang of mobsters hunting for Danny’s life, a barber shop quartet, and spiteful desk receptionist, Danny must navigate through the insanity and make it through his first day of work alive. “Boss of Boston” was developed through the newly initiated Playwriting class at The Woodlands High School.
