Carnegie Museum Presents In Harmony With Nature

For more than 50 years, Donald Robinson has taken viewers on a visual journey with his stunning landscapes and lush wildlife photography. From powerful portraits to intricate, intimate photographs of butterflies and flowers, Robinson explores the world’s wonders with his camera in tow.

In Harmony with Nature II: Photos by Donald M. Robinson presents more than 200 color photographs and comes to Carnegie Museum of Natural History via loan from the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.

Images by this internationally acclaimed photographer portray the diversity of culture, wildlife, flora, and landscape of six continents and more than 60 countries. Robinson’s approach to photography ranges from the pictorial to photojournalism and his images have universal appeal while they exhibit his mastery of the technical complexities of the medium.

The public is invited to a special artist’s lecture by Robinson at 1p.m. June 21 in R.P. Simmons Family Gallery. The talk is free with paid admission and no registration is required.

For more than 50 years, Robinson has been photographing people, landscapes and wildlife around the globe. Many of the photographs were taken during Robinson's travels around the world, including visits to Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, South America and Antarctica.

Robinson's interest in photography was spurred at an early age. He considered photography as a profession for the first time while on a trip to Mexico in 1950. That adventure was the catalyst for a six-decade global odyssey during which he recorded his journey on film.

His photographs have been exhibited around the world and have won many awards. In 1991, Robinson was awarded the EFIAP award (Artist Excellence) by the International Federation of Photographic Art. He was also awarded the Photography Society of America's Galaxy Award and has won 25 gold medals for "Best of Show" in various international photography salons. In Harmony with Nature II: Photos by Donald M. Robinson is his sixth exhibition at Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

In addition, Robinson's photographs are part of the permanent collections of Carnegie Museum of Natural History; Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Loretto, PA; Burpee Museum of Natural History, Rockford, IL; Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cornell Museum of Art and Natural History, Delray Beach, FL; Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and numerous private collections.

His camera of choice has been a 35mm SLR (single lens reflex). Robinson was educated at the University of South Carolina and Harvard Graduate School of Business. He served as an officer in the US Navy during World War II and later developed two successful businesses and has been deeply involved in humanitarian aid. This is his 51st museum exhibit since 1988. -- www.cmoa.org
