The BalletMet Dance Academy, among the nation’s top five dance-training centers affiliated with a professional company, closes its school year with its performance, The Classroom and Beyond 2008, at the Capitol Theatre, June 6 at 7:30pm and June 7 at 5pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are $14 for a single performance, or $25 for a multiple performance pass.

The annual spring showcase provides students the opportunity to experience the entire performance process, from the studio to the stage. The wide varieties of dance styles featured in this year’s show include ballet, modern, jazz, Flamenco, hip hop, ballroom, tap and more.

The Academy serves more than 1,200 students ages 4 to adult at the downtown Dance Centre. A satellite in Gahanna’s Vista Plaza opened in September 2007 and serves more than 100 students. Students from both sites will perform in the showcase. The first year of the Gahanna site will culminate with the show, said Academy Managing Director Chris Rogers.

“The showcase will provide a wonderful opportunity for students from both facilities to share their love of dance with each other and the community,” Rogers said.

The BalletMet Dance Academy teaches students of all ages and levels. Special tracks include the classically based Pre-Professional Program and YouthMet, a student performance group. In addition to the year-end performance and in-studio demonstrations, Academy students have the opportunity to audition for roles in The Nutcracker and other productions, allowing talented students to perform and interact with BalletMet’s professional company members. -- www.balletmet.org
