Meteorologists are warning people to stay cool this weekend as strong heat wave is coming to South East of United State.
Over the weekend we expect our first heat wave of the season to develop on saturday into sunday with temperatures at or just above the 90 degree mark in many locations and this heat wave could last into early next week. Temperatures during the overnight will only dip into the 70s over the weekend. Hudson and southeast bergen county may pick up a local coastal sea breeze which would bring some relief each afternoon if the sea breeze effects develop.
Emergency managers are urged to consider opening cooling stations for those who do not have air conditioners over the weekend into early next week.
Pets and the elderly have most problems during the extreme heat, limit outdoor activities during extreme heat which will occur each afternoon and evening, temperatures however will only drop into the 80s in the evening and only the mid to upper 70s overnight.
The official heat wave definition is three consecutive days of 90 degree or above temperatures.
Emergency medical service agencies should prepare to see possible heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke in the most serious cases.
Expected daytime high temperatures on saturday, sunday and monday will be 90f to 95f degrees.
Some weather terms can’t be defined by numbers alone. A “Heat Wave” is one of those terms. It’s defined by qualitative rather than quantitative terms. One person’s heat wave can be another’s hot spell. In my opinion the numbers we are about to get over the next 5 days (or more) would qualify as a heat wave based on the following definition from the American Meteorological Society’s “GLOSSARY OF METEOROLOGY”
heat wave—(Also called hot wave, warm wave.) A period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and usually humid weather.
To be a heat wave such a period should last at least one day, but conventionally it lasts from several days to several weeks. In 1900, A. T. Burrows more rigidly defined a “hot wave” as a spell of three or more days on each of which the maximum shade temperature reaches or exceeds 90°F. More realistically, the comfort criteria for any one region are dependent upon the normal conditions of that region. In the eastern United States, heat waves generally build up with southerly winds on the western flank of an anticyclone centered over the southeastern states, the air being warmed by passage over a land surface heated by the sun. See also hot wind. Ward, R. de C., 1925: The Climates of the United States, 383–395.
Whatever you call it– It’s going to be hot. Do your best to stay cool!
I’m really wondering how anyone can question global warming at this point. And the scary thing is, it’s happening almost immediately instead of 20-50 years off. This is not a heat wave, it is the destruction that we’ve done and continue to do to our planet. I don’t understand how meteorologists can downplay this. We are 20 degrees above average, the record high is in the mid 90s, which is actually going to be our coolest reading for the next week. But hey, what can we expect when it was 80 in February. - Reported by NBC12 Weather Blog

#1 You're kinda forgeting about
You're kinda forgeting about the record setting winter the US just experianced, or the fact that the temperatures in the western part of the US are going to be below average for the duration of the heat wave to the east. You need to look at the other 2 million variables in climate pal.
#2 Heat Wave ???
I can't believe I am responding to this, but I have had enough. Your last paragraph is totally irresponsible, in addition to that, what will you say when the heat wave is over. Here on Long Island we have just been through one of the coolest springs on record. Every once in a while you are due to have a heat spike. This global warming thing has gotten out of control, just so a certain group of scientists can keep their grants and jobs, when their staring at cuts.
Global warming is cyclical, and one heat wave, in a year that has already erased all the "so-called temperature gains of the last 60 years" will mean nothing.
And as the poster above states, there are a gazillion variables to consider. You want to see what the next few years will bring, take a look at susnspot activity. Look at the correlations of the past. I can't wait to hear what you will say when the next winter dumps some serious snow throughout the country.
I can't wait till this garbage is over, and some people finally have egg on their face. CO2?? Are you kidding me ???? What about Methane??? what about eruptions from volcanoes ???? What about outgassing from the seas ???? (what these don't have an effect). People have to wake up from the we're causing global warming. I am all for clean living, and we should be doing all we can to clean our environment, but the only ones making money of off this garbage are Gore and the people who control that several billion dollar fund they have built up for so called "Eco Businesses". They will try to ensure that their mantra equals dollars for their investors and not what is right for the world.
Slowly the conscience of some scientists will come around, especially those who can't gain traction in this media hype environment. Eventually, they will be staring at the truth, and be forced to tell it.
#3 Out west
we are freezing. Using your logic that proves we are having global cooling.
