It looks like Amazon is already down for at least two and half hours. While btas2 from webmaster world is reporting that he was unable to connect to Amazon.com since 1PM EST, Joop writes it is "working for me but very slow."
Btas2 again reports that " The odd thing is that their affiliates site is just fine. There are no announcements there about any outage, but I've had reports from a bunch of different people that my affiliate links aren't working and neither are affiliate links on other websites."
Other commentators from various parts of the world report that amazon.com is working for them here and there, however, presently here in North Carolina at 2:30 PM EST we can't access amazon.com and see Http/1.1 Service Unavailable message when trying to access www.amazon.com
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is an American electronic commerce (e-commerce) company in Seattle, Washington. Amazon was one of the first major companies to sell goods by Internet, and was an iconic "stock in which to invest" of the late 1990s dot-com bubble. After the collapse, the public became skeptical about Amazon's business model, yet, it turned an annual profit in 2003.
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon.com, Inc. in 1994, and launched it on-line in 1995. Amazon.com started as an on-line bookstore, but soon diversified to product lines of VHS, DVD, music CDs, MP3 format, computer software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys, etc. Amazon has established separate websites in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, China, and Japan. It also provides global shipping to certain countries for some of its products, reports wikipedia.
Currently no message is found on the internet about the cause of the Amazon.com outage. There is no press release or information from Amazon either.
Dow Jones Newswire says "It wasn't clear how long the site had been down, or what caused the outage. Shares of Amazon were down 2.8% at $82.12."
