iPhone Lovers Expect 3G iPhone 2.0, Price Today

Today, June 9, 2008, all iPhone lovers are anticipating Steve Jobs announcing the latest version of Apple's popular iPhone. It is dubbed the iPhone 2 or iPhone 3G. There are already reports and rumors that the price of new iPhone 2.0, will be around $200 U.S. dollars.

The Guardian writes that in some cases, the price of iPhone 2.0 will even be free to new subscribers:

… the handset will be offered at lower prices - or even for free. Those who sign up for a contract costing £75 a month will be offered the handset for no extra charge, breaking with Apple’s earlier attempts to avoid the large subsidies common in the rest of the industry. Elsewhere, the gadget is likely to be subsidised to lower the price, which could drop from £269 to as little as £100.

The keynote speech by Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, will be at the 2008 World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) this morning, 10 a.m. (PT).

Jobs is expected to announce the 3rd Generation iPhone. This new iPhone device will have faster internet access, games, a better camera, video recording, and extra third party applications.

Also, an announcement might be made about Apple allowing networks to reduce the price of the iPhone. Apple has sold more than 5 million iPhones since its debut in the US in June, 2007. The company says its goal is to sell at least 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. In only one year on the market iPhone enjoys 20% share of the US smartphone market and 5% share of the global market. Now... that's impressive!

I look forward to the price drop of the new iPhones. I plan on purchasing one of these fascinating devices this fall.
