Queensland Orchestra Presents Little Mermaid

Playschool star and multi award-winning actress Deborah Mailman will join The Queensland Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed Silver-Garburg piano duo in a very special concert performance of the much loved Hans Christian Andersen story, The Little Mermaid.

Through music and narration, The Little Mermaid tells the story of the mermaid whose love for a prince compels her to bargain with a sea-witch to become human, only to discover the prince loves another. Filled with the favourite fairytale elements of suspense, magic, love and friendship, The Little Mermaid depicts the triumph of good over evil.

The Out of the Box performance marks the Australian premiere of this enchanting orchestral work and the Queensland debut of internationally renowned Israeli pianists, Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg, who have performed in some of the most prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Berlin Philharmonie and Vienna Musikverein.

"I am very excited that we will have two such fine international artists joining soloists of the Queensland Orchestra in this wonderful new work. More than just telling the story, the narration performed by Deborah Mailman skilfully weaves the magic of the words into the poetry of the music," Festival Artistic Director Mark Radvan said.

Composed by Israel's Dr Lior Navok, the special chamber orchestra performance of The Little Mermaid is directed by Sean Mee and conducted by Opera Australia's Stephen Mould. The Little Mermaid is one of 9 performances, 8 workshops and 15 free events that form this year's Out of the Box Festival.

Wednesday to Friday, 10.15am and 11.45am
