- Can I buy the iPhone without a contract?
No. The iPhone will be $199 for the 8gb model, and $299 for the 16gb model. There is no other pricing. You will not be able to put the iPhone on a prepaid plan.
- Do I activate my new 3G iPhone through iTunes?
No. The iPhone will have to be activated in the store. You will have to sign a 3 year contract at that time before you leave the store.
- How much will the monthly plan be?
There has been no word from Rogers or Fido on details of any monthly plan cost or features yet.
- I currently have a great voice plan already, can I just add an iPhone data plan to my existing plan?
There has been no word on this either but I have posted my thoughts on that in greater detail here.
- What if I’m only 1 year into my 3 year contract with Rogers or Fido?
When you buy your new iPhone, you will be signing a new 3 year contract starting on the day you activate your iPhone. It won’t add 3 additional years onto your current contract, you will start fresh. I am pretty sure this is the case, but again, this info is not 100% confirmed. This is what they are doing on AT&T anyway.
- Will the iPhone 3G be able to be unlocked?
Most likely yes, but we just have to wait and see what happens. I’m sure it wont take long for the hackers to be unlock it but it hasn’t happened yet and will probably take a little while once July 11th passes.
- Why would I want to unlock my iPhone 3G since it works in Canada now?
The only reason you would want to unlock it would be to avoid roaming charges when travelling. It would let you put any gsm sim card in the phone, like we do now.
- Will the iPhone 3G come unlocked?
There has been talk and rumors about this, but no.
- Will there be a purchase limit?
Maybe, AT&T will be limiting purchasers to 3 iPhones. They have to be activated in the store anyway so there is no point in buying them to resell.
- Will there be unlimited data?
I don’t think so. O2 in Ireland only offers 1gb of data with the current iPhone plans, if Rogers doesn’t have to give us unlimited data, I don’t think they will.
- Will there be Rogers or Fido branding on the iPhone?
Most definitely not. We will not see little Rogers or Fido logos on it.
- Will there be Firmware branding on the iPhone?
Most definitely not again. Apple won’t let Rogers touch the firmware with a 10 foot pole.

AT&T requires a 2 year contract to purchase the iphone for $199.
AT&T is in USA and Rogers-Fido-Ripp-offs are in Canada. Never forget that. Be prepared to deal with wellknown crap they've been delivering to us for so long now.
I know I am not going to sign any contract with anyone. I am not even going to ue any data plans. I just like iPhone's appearance and I'll be using it just as a regular phone (calls/text messaging). just disable EDGE access in your phone and no owrries about high charges for the data transfer. BTW, I will use Fido prepaid service, so there is no way I could get $700 bills like some of my palls from the work used to get not paying attention as to how much data they transfered througout the month. I have another friend who is using his iPhone with Fido prepaid card for the last 6 months and he's never ever had any trouble... using it just as any regular cell phone.

It will be on a 3 yr contract from Rogers or Fido, they have confirmed that.
Today I spoke with a rogers employee in grande prairie, alberta who stated that wifi will be either not included in the canadian phones or disabled.
there's no way iphone will not have wifi in canada or for any other country for that matter

I have a wireless router at home. When I am at home, can the iphone connect to that wireless router for internet instead of the network it normally uses? I'm guessing the internet would be much faster that way?
