Sharon Bezaly Performs With Singapore Orchestra

Virtuoso flautist Sharon Bezaly joins the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in the much-anticipated world premiere of Zhou Long’s Flute Concerto on July 17 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Maestro Lan Shui conducts.

Described by The Times as “God’s Gift to the flute“, Sharon Bezaly was named ‘Instrumentalist of the Year 2002’ by Klassik Echo in Germany and ‘Young Artist of the Year’ at the 2003 Cannes Classical Awards. Having started to play the flute at the age of 11, Sharon Bezaly gave her debut concert as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta when she was 14. She plays on a 24-carat gold flute, especially made for her by Muramatsu.

Also in the concert: Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony, an expansive work filled with inspired and memorable melodies which won the Glinka prize the year it was premiered. -- www.sso.org.sg
