Google News reports that a 14-year-old girl and her boyfriend have been arrested on suspicion of murdering the girl's mother, who was found stabbed to death in her El Dorado, California home.
Tylar Witt and Steven Colver, 19, were taken into custody on Wednesday by San Bruno police at a strip mall approximately 15 miles south of San Franscisco. The two teens have been wanted by police and on the run since Monday when Tylar's mother, Joanne Witt, 47, was found dead in her home.
El Dorado County Sheriff's Department investigators believe Tylar's relationship with Colver, and her mother's objection to it, may have led to the murder.
Police were notified when co-workers became concerned when Witt failed to show up for work since Thursday.
According to sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Jim Byers, investigators have yet to recover a murder weapon but believe Witt was stabbed with a kitchen knife. They are still trying to determine which suspect allegedly committed the murder, or if both participated. Results of an autopsy are expected to help investigators determine when Witt died.
Byers said authorities began closing in on Tylar and Steven when police located a car on Tuesday believed to have been abandoned by the two teens in downtown San Francisco. They also searched a hotel room they believe the couple stayed in on Friday.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Bill Clark said both teens are currently being held on murder warrants as formal charges have yet to be filed.
It is worth noting that, according to authorities, this was not the first time police have had to respond to Witt's home. On May 18, Tylar Witt was booked into juvenile hall for assaulting her mother.
