CNN reports that evidence suggests that Tylar Witt and Steven Colver, the teen girl and boyfriend charged with murder in the brutal stabbing death of Witt's mother, Joanne Witt, may have been planning to commit suicide based upon items recovered from the hotel room shared by the teenager and her boyfriend after the murder.
Acting pursuant to a search warrant, authorities searched the Holiday Inn Gold hotel room in San Francisco where the two teens were believed to have stayed last Friday when they were on the run from the police.
Results of the search were released on Tuesday. The following items were recovered leading police to believe the teen girl and her boyfriend were going to kill themselves: two purple bowls with cereal and rat poison, about 5 grams of marijuana, a marijuana pipe, condoms, a Rubio's apron (Colver's Facebook page said he worked at Rubio's in Folsom), a nametag that said "Boston", a "Donnie Darko" DVD and a suicide note that said, "You will find us together, dead on a beach..."
It is alleged that Tylar Witt and Colver used a knife to commit the murder. When Joanne Witt's body was found June 15, she had been stabbed in the neck and had cuts in her shirt. Her upper torso and face were covered in blood, and there was blood on her legs. A blanket was draped over her head.
Police believe Tylar Witt, 14, and Colver, 19, killed her mom because she disapproved of their relationship. Reports since indicate that Joanne Witt took steps in the past month to seek statutory rape charges against Colver. It now appears that the teen girl and her boyfriend were planning on killing themselves as well.
On Monday, Tylar Witt waived her right to hear the juvenile petition and was ordered to stay in the custody of probation in juvenile detention. As for Colver, he plead not guilty to murder charges.
