Orange County woman is sentenced to jail for lying about being raped in an effort to extort money from her victim.

As if rape cases aren't hard enough, it certainly doesn't help when someone lies about it. That is exactly what happened when Susanna Coetzee met her victim on April 1 as the Orange County woman was sentenced to jail for lying about being raped in order to extort money from a man she met online.

Coetzee, 28, plead guilty on Thursday and was sentenced to 127 days in jail for falsely accusing a man of raping her in an effort to extort $15,000 from him.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's office, Coetzee, from Newport Beach, met her victim through the online dating website www.seekingarrangement.com. The two met on the night of April 1 and ended up in an Anaheim hotel where they had consensual sex.

After having sex, Coetzee demande money for the sex act. When the man refused, Coetzee said that he raped her. She then left the hotel and yelled that she had been raped called 911 to report the false rape claim.

Prosecutors further alleged that Coetzee went to the Anaheim Police Department and filed a false rape report going as far as to say the victim had covered her face with a pillow while he raped her and then beat her with a telephone receiver.

Coetzee then continued her efforts to extort money from the victim. Over the next two weeks she left several dozen text messages demanding money in exchange for her dropping the false rape report.

Finally, on April 14, Coetzee was stopped when she was arrested at the Block in Orange where she believed she was meeting her victim to collect $5,000 in exchange for a letter clearing the man of the false rape charge.

Susanna Coetzee got off light. If this man had been convicted of her false rape allegation, he would have spent years in prison. Not to mention the stigma that society attaches to anyone charged with rape or other sex-related offense whether the charge it is true or not. She lies about being raped to extort money and gets four months in county jail. She is either lucky or just had a good criminal defense lawyer.
