Chino Prison Riot

A riot has broken out at the California Institution for Men in Chino last night. The Chino Prison Riot is being reported as a major riot that has resulted in a number of inmates being sent to the hospital.

According to Lt. Mark Hargrove, the Chino prison riot started at approximately 8:20 last night in the facility's Reception Center West Facility which is made up of several medium security units that house 200 inmates each.

The Chino prison riot started in one unit and quickly spread to others. Lt. Hargrove said that at least one unit was engulfed in flames. As for the inmates, they self-evacuated into a yard but it was unclear if everyone made it out of the building.

At this point, the Chino State Prison is on lock-down as authorities from Chino Valley Firedepartment, Chino police, San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies and Ontario police try to gain control of the riot.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Chino prison riot started as a result of an altercation between Hispanics and African American inmates at the prison.
