The Florida stimulus money sting, formally named "Operation Show Me The Money", involved sending letters to fugitives offering them stimulus money. All the fugitive had to do was call a hot line and set up an appointment to pickup a check from an auditorium in Fort Lauderdale where "South Florida Stimulus Coalition" banners were hung to further make it seem legitimate.
Much to the surprise of the fugitives, when they arrived, they were identified and arrested. All told, 75 fugitives were taken into custody as a result of the Florida stimulus money sting operation on charges including grand theft, fraud and attempted murder.
The Florida stimulus sting operation saved many man hours and allowed for the arrest of the fugitives in a controlled environment. The success of the Florida stimulus money sting will most likely lead to similar operations in the future.
As for the fugitives, at least they will have those stimulus checks waiting for them when they get out.
