NBA star and Cleveland Cavalier guard Delonte West was arrested on Thursday on gun possession charges. Delonte West was arrested after officers stopped him for speeding on I-95 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and found him to be in possession of three loaded firearms, including two handguns and a shotgun which was stored inside a guitar case that was strapped to his back like he was El Mariachi.
At approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night, NBA star Delonte West was speeding down the highway on his Can-Am Spyder motorcycle when he cut off a police officer on the Capital Beltway in Upper Marlboro.
The officer pulled him over for speeding and found a handgun inside Delonte West's pocket. A further search also revealed another handgun strapped to Delonte West's pant leg and a shotgun inside the guitar case that was strapped to his back. All three guns were loaded.
Delonte West was arrested and booked on gun possession charges and released on his own recognizance early Friday morning.
So what does the NBA and, more specifically, the Cleveland Cavaliers think of Delonte "El Mariachi" West's gun possession arrest? Cleveland Cavalier General Manager Danny Ferry issued the following statement.
"We have been in communication with Delonte and his family. We are gathering more information and will not have further comment until the appropriate time."
