A gunfight has caused US authorities to close the busiest border crossing between Mexico and the United States. The San Ysidro Port of Entry border crossing was closed on Tuesday after suspected Mexican human traffickers opened fire on U.S. agents as they tried to speed across the border with a van full of illegal immigrants.
Tuesday afternoon, three vans loaded with suspected illegal immigrants tried to speed through the San Ysidro Mexico border crossing resulting in a shootout with U.S. agents as they unsuccessfully tried to cross from Tijuana into San Diego.
All 70 suspected illegal immigrants that were inside the three vans were taken into custody.
Four people were injured in the San Ysidro Mexico border crossing shootout, three people in the vans and a traveler in a nearby car.
The San Ysidro Mexico border is the busiest border crossing in the United States with approximately 40,000 cars crossing the border every day. It is unclear at this time how long the busy US Mexico border will be closed as a result of the gunfight.
