The FBI arrested Michael David Barrett, 48, at Chicago O'Hare International Airport and charged him with felony stalking amid allegations that he contacted a number of hotels to find out which ones Erin Andrews would be staying in order to locate her and her room number, "hack off" the peephole on the doors to her room and replace them with tiny video cameras in order to record her inside.
Specifically, the FBI complaint alleges that Michael David Barrett stalked Erin Andrews "with the intent to harass, to place under surveillance with intent to harass and intimidate, and to cause substantial emotional distress to a person in another state."
This past July, a total of six Erin Andrews Peephole Videos hit the internet showing the ESPN reporter walking naked in various hotel rooms. It was practically impossible to tell from the peephole video where the videos were taken.
The FBI further alleges that after Michael David Barrett stalked and shot the Erin Andrews Peephole Videos, he posted them online after shopping them around to news outlets such as TMZ.com through his email account. The stalking complaint against Michael David Barrett suggests this may have ultimately led to his arrest in this case.
For the record, TMZ.com refused to buy and/or post the Erin Andrews Peephole Videos, recognizing them for what they were, an outright violation and invasion of Erin Andrews' right to privacy.
