An Arizona sheriff vowed to continue his controversial hunt for illegal immigrants today despite a decision by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to strip him of his authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely upon their immigration status. The Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will disregard the directive of the Department of Homeland and continue to target suspected illegal immigrants as part of his "crime suppression operations."

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is presently under investigation by the Department of Justice and other federal agencies amid complaints that the Sheriff Department's "crime suppression operation" is really just another name for racial profiling.

The "crime suppression operations" are saturation patrols conducted in designated areas in order to find suspected illegal immigrants, stop them for minor traffic or law violations, then arrest them based upon their immigration status.

In an effort to stop the Arizona Sheriff, the Department of Homeland Security stripped Joe Arpaio of his authority to conduct street patrols for the sole purpose of arresting suspected illegal immigrants. While Sheriff Arpaio will still be able to check the immigration status of individual's arrested and booked by his officers, he will no longer be able to just comb the streets on a hunt for illegal immigrants.

How does Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio feel about the Department of Homeland Security's decision? "It's all politics" according to the sheriff who says he will continue his "crime suppression operations" under the authority of a state human smuggling laws and an obscure federal law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants.
