After spending over 30 years as a fugitive, Roman Polanski was finally arrested on September 26 as he arrived in Zurich to attend and receive an award at the Zurich Film Festival. Since his arrest, Roman Polanski's lawyer's have been waging a great legal battle in an effort to fight his extradition back to the U.S.
While there still seems to be great support for Roman Polanski and his battle against extradition, he may have lost some of that support after the 13-year-old girl's grand jury testimony was released just after his arrest. In it, the young girl details how Polanski gave her champagne and a quaalude before repeatedly having oral, vaginal and anal sex with her despite her repeated attempts to get him to stop and let her go home.
At the request of Swiss prosecutors handling Roman Polanski's extradition proceedings, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office sent a packet summarizing the case and further addressing the allegations of judicial and/or prosecutorial misconduct levied by Roman Polanski's lawyers.
The email regarding Roman Polanski's extradition related an October 5 conversation between Swiss officials and officials at the U.S. Justice Department. Diana Carbajal, a deputy district attorney in the extradition services department, said that “while the Swiss officials cannot speak for the judge, the extradition will likely be ordered based upon the facts submitted in our papers.”
