Berman, Professor of Piano at Yale and revered across the world for his stellar performances, will make his Queensland debut in Berman Plays Brahms over two nights on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June at the QPAC Concert Hall.
"This is a greatly anticipated concert. I'm looking forward to hearing the great Berman play with The Queensland Orchestra, as well as welcoming back Maestro Inkinen to conduct," said The Queensland Orchestra's Tom Woods.
"Berman promises to embrace the vast emotional range of Brahms First Piano Concerto, from its intense opening to the peace of the central adagio. Then, the exhilaration and sensuality of Debussy's powerful musical seascape La Mer will be followed by Ravel?s haunted ballroom in La Valse."
The artistry of Boris Berman has been heard by audiences in over 40 countries on six continents. He has given acclaimed performances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Royal Scottish Orchestra and St Petersburg Philharmonic orchestra.
The Queensland Orchestra's Maestro concert series is the orchestra's flagship and features the best of international conductors and soloists in large-scale symphonic repertoire.
"As many know, composer Brahms was a German Romantic, who breathed new life into classical forms and his first Piano Concerto is noted as being on of the Top 10 performed piano concerto's of all time. This will certainly be a great concert event, marking halfway for our Maestro Series.?" -- www.thequeenslandorchestra.com.au
