The iPhone 3G Showing Up On eBay

There are tons of iPhone 3G’s listed on ebay. They are being offered as presales to ship on July 11. I don’t know what these sellers and bidders are thinking. According to AT&T policy, they have to be activated in the store.

The highest priced iPhone 3G is listed at $939.95 buy it now - it includes free shipping! Someone even bought 2 of them at this price!

The highest bid on an auction for the iPhone 3G is current at - $610.

Are these people crazy? Why would anyone bid $600 or pay over $900 outright for an iPhone 3G. Come on, they are going to be priced at $199 and $299. There is even a couple auctions stating they are selling the iPhone 3G unlocked.

You can see the all of the listings on ebay for the iPhone 3G here

What will probably happen, if this is not one big scam, is these sellers will go to AT&T or Apple, try to buy a bunch of iPhone’s and get denied or realize, oops, I have to activate it.

Sounds like another case of the iPhone lady who cashed her 401k and planned to buy $100,000 worth of iPhones on the first day they went on sale last year. She paid some kid $800 for the first place in line and then was only able to buy 1. What a joke that was.

There is no guarantee at this point in time that they can be unlocked and if you can even walk out the store without activating them.

If this ends up working somehow, these people are going to make a lot of money.

My advice - don’t buy it on ebay.

#1 they would pay over 600

they would pay over 600 dollars because on ebay's iphones they wont pay nothing every month for the next 18 months like on at&t, yes the iphone is 199, but whit a 18 months plan when they have to pay 60 dollars every month for just 75 minutes of calls, 125 text messages, if you want mor minutes you have to pay more, thats why ;), i think the prices on ebay are ok

#2 No, you're the one who's

No, you're the one who's crazy. Though a better choice of words would be ignorant. If you ever thought that 3G Iphones will go for $199/299 with no strings attached, you're obviously a moron who never read fine prints. It CLEARLY stated (even before AT&T went public with the no-contract prices) on Apple's website (hello *) that $199 price will require a 2-3yr contract and data plan. I'm currently paying $30 for my minute plan. Why would I want to switch to an AT&T plan that's at least $40-50 more every month? So I'd gladly pay $500-600 for a 16gb 3G Iphone with no contract. Too bad nobody's selling them at that price... nobody legit anyway.
