US Open For Play, Justin Hicks Good Start

It’s still late morning at Torrey Pines as they start early play of the first round of the United States Open Golf Championship. If you’re a golf junkie like myself, here’s hoping you will enjoy our posts over the next few days to bring you the latest information from beautiful San Diego covering American Justin Hickory and U.S. Open golf championship.

Perhaps Tiger Woods needs to visit Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce about how to return after a knee injury. Woods carded a double bogey on the first hole today and has only gotten it back to even par through his first eight holes of the day. In fact, the dream group of the day currently sits at a cumulative score of +3, which includes Adam Scott (even par) and Phil Mickelson (+3). Lefty must get in the house at even par to content for this title, as the scoring continues to go lower.

Currently, Patrick Sheehan owns the first round lead at 4-under through 11 holes of play. Sheehan’s card features four birdies and zero bogeys, which becomes the envy of the other 155 golfers. American Justin Hicks sits in a tie for second place, but features the most interesting story of the day so far.

Justin Hicks didn’t make a par on the back nine at Torrey Pines. Mixing in six birdies with three bogeys, Hicks made the turn at -3 and, through 11 holes, remains just one shot back of the early leader.

Make sure to check in through the afternoon and evening for the latest updates and feel free to ask your questions in the comments section. Don’t forget that NBC Sports carries live first round action this afternoon at 3:00 on WBAL-TV.
