The Queensland Orchestra will be joined on stage by a rock band comprising seven leading rock entertainers to perform Pink Floyd's greatest hits. The result will be a collaboration never before staged in Queensland.
Songs to be given the full orchestral treatment include the Pink Floyd Overture, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Astronomy Domine, Scarecrow, Dark Side Suite, Time, Money, Great Gig in the Sky, Us and Them, Eclipse, The Dogs of War, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Signs of Life, Learning to Fly and of course, Another Brick in the Wall.
The Queensland Orchestra's Michael P. Smith said the special concert event would deliver the works of Pink Floyd against a backdrop of pure orchestral harmonies, directed by well known musical director and guitarist, Rob Pippan.
"Pink Floyd is one of music's most successful and enduring bands. To be able to deliver some of this band's works, with a full 70 piece orchestra and a leading rock ensemble on centre stage will be magnificent," he said. "The Queensland Orchestra Plays Pink Floyd will appeal to a broad range of Queenslanders including the thousands of Pink Floyd fans throughout the state."
Pink Floyd's two benchmark albums - Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall - are acknowledged as albums which changed the history of music and made the band one of the most successful of all time. Dark Side of the Moon was written in just seven weeks and sold 34 million copies worldwide. It also stands in the Guinness Book of World Records as the album spending the most number of consecutive weeks in the charts, 591 weeks (or 11.4 years) on the Billboard Top 200. -- www.thequeenslandorchestra.com.au
