
The second Group C game to be played this Friday evening was between the Netherlands and France in Berne's Wankdorf Stadium. The thrilling match ended in a 4-1 win for the Netherlands, taking them through to the championship's quarter finals.
Just under 10 minutes into the game, Dirk Kuyt headed the ball to score the first goal and put the Netherlands in the lead. Early in the second half, Robin van Persie scored another, making it 2-0 for the Netherlands.
A further 13 minutes into the game, Thierry Henry beat the defending field to score for France. But, less than one minute later, Arjen Robben scored a wonderful goal pushing the Dutch lead to 3-1. And just one minute before the final whistle, a great shot from Wesley Sneijder made it 4-1 for the Netherlands.
Reuters reports that "Marco van Basten's team clinched first place in Group C with six points, four ahead of Romania. France and Italy, who meet in Zurich on Tuesday, have one point each."
