One Night Only February Classic Special will Feature Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1
Called “a pianist’s pianist” by The New Yorker, Ms. Licad is acclaimed for her interpretations of the Romantic literature of Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Schumann. Her recent performances of Saint-Saens’s Piano Concerto brought Tucson Music Hall audiences to their feet immediately. In a review headlined, “Musicians, Audience Awe-struck by Pianist,” the Arizona Daily Star called her performance “technically flawless, stunningly expressive, virtuosic to degrees that boggle the mind.”
This was Ms. Licad’s first performance with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra in nearly 20 years and her first with Music Director and Conductor, George Hanson. The two musicians quickly formed a mutual admiration society and Ms. Licad informed her manager immediately after her performances with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra that she wanted to return to work with the orchestra as soon as possible. In addition to Ms. Licad’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, the program will also include Swan Lake Suite and Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin.
“Cecile is a world class artist, and it was a thrill to work with her for the first time,” commented Mr. Hanson. “The Tchaikovsky concerto is a perfect match for her virtuosity and musicality; I personally look forward to sharing the stage with her once more.”
Tickets from $28 are on sale now to Tucson Symphony Orchestra subscribers. Subscribers who have purchased tickets already and would like refunds should call the box office. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, August 25. -- www.tucsonsymphony.org
