Tajik Supreme Court Updates Terror List

The Tajik Supreme Court last year added 10 organizations and political groups to the country's official terror list.

The announcement was made today by Prosecutor-General Bobojon Bobokhonov.

Bobokhonov told reporters that the newly banned groupings include the Islamic Party of Turkestan and Tochikistoni Ozod (Free Tajikistan), an Uzbekistan-based political party that authorities say represents a threat to Tajikistan's national security.

Meanwhile, Tajik President Imomali Rakhmonov has begun a six-day visit to neighboring China.

Rakhmonov is scheduled to meet today with his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao. Later this week, he is due to attend a Tajik-Chinese business forum in Beijing.

He will also visit China's giant Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River. Several bilateral economic documents are expected to be signed during Rakhmonov's visit.
