This was a classic soccer game. Russians, not being the favorites, won 3-1.
The first half, where the soccer team of Russia had an advantage finished 0-0, but Russians had several instances when they could achieve a goal.
However, on the second half on 56th minute Russia had one goal and kept the entire match in offensive keeping the Dutch soccer players under pressure. Marco Van Basten's team and the coach were very sad and hopeless, but on the 85th minute Netherlands sored a goal making it even with Russians.
Then there was the additional time. No goal was registered in the additional time's first half, but in the second half toward the end, Russians scored two goals, five minutes before the game's end securing the entrance to Euro 2008 semi-finals.
This is the first time in history that the national soccer team of Russia has come thus far entering the semi-final games of 2008. It was said that the Russians would be very satisfied even at this stage, but I think now they feel more confident in their ability to become the winners of Euro 2008 and will aim the finale of UEFA's EURO 2008 games.
This was truly a classic and enjoyable game to watch. One could not recognized neither Russians nor the Dutch. Russians showed a game much above the expectations and Marco Van Basten's team showed a game much below its expectations.
Much credit goes to the coach of Russia Guus Hiddink who accepted the challenge of leading Russia in UEFA EURO 2008 on the back of continued success with PSV Eindhoven and in the international arena.
Look for more action coming up in the Semifinals. Tomorrow Spain will play against Italy and Turkey will play against Germany on Monday.
