New Jersey Theatre Presents Lyle Lovett

State Theatre presents Lyle Lovett and his Large Band in Concert on Wednesday, June 25 at 8pm. Lovett and his band will perform new hits off of the new album, IT'S NOT BIG IT'S LARGE, as well as some of Lovett's well known songs. Tickets range from $40-90. The Media sponsor for this concert is 90. 5 The NIGHT, Brookdale Public Radio.

Known for his original lyrics and unique voice, four-time Grammy Award-winner Lyle Lovett is one of the all-time great American singer/songwriters. Inspired by talented Texas songwriters like Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Townes Van Zandt, Lovett began writing in the early 80s.

In 1986, he signed to MCA Nashville/Curb and soon reached the Top 10 with "Cowboy Man". Lovett's music incorporates elements of a variety of music genres including country, Western, folk, swing, jazz, bebop, blues, and gospel music. To date, he has recorded 13 albums, including his new album, IT'S NOT BIG IT'S LARGE.

The New York Times raves, "The modest ache in Lyle Lovett's voice serves many purposes throughout his sleek new album…On a bluegrass stomper like 'Up in Indiana' it lends a note of wistful distraction...On a honeyed waltz like 'South Texas Girl' it freshens up some well-worn romanticism."

Lovett's other hits include: "If I Had A Boat," "God Will," and "If I Were the Man You Wanted"; humorous tunes, "That's Right (You're Not From Texas)" and "Here I am"; and heartbreakers such as "Nobody Knows Me" and "The Road To Ensenada".

Also, an actor on the side, Lovett has been in a number of films, including Robert Altman's The Player, Shortcuts, Pret-a-Porter; and the recent biopic parody, Walk Hard: the Dewey Cox Story. -- www.statetheatrenj.org
